Finally, The Battle Of Bretonnia

Hey, does anyone remember The Wizard What's-His-Name and his trek?

Well, he made it!

I have been wanting to do this for a long time...

    1. Thank you, Blue in VT, nice to have you stop by! And yeah, the Dragon vs. the Wardancers is my favourite photo too. I just won't tell you what ended up happening to them...

  5. Brilliant layout...true Oldhammer, just the kind of battle I dreamed about laying on in 1983.

    1. Hi Springinsfeld. Thank you. Oh yeah, 1983/84, games in the cold basement, hordes of unpainted lead on my father's pool table, the 6 hour plus games, the arguments, the hurt feelings, the stench of 14 year old boys locked in a room for too long, the Peter Gabriel...but I think of it very fondly now, and I wonder if the games I play now are but technicolour revisitions of those past times?

  6. Fantastic! Puts me in mind of those shots of the enormous battle in the WFB 3rd Ed rulebook!

    1. Hey Mouse! Thanks. The glorious shots in 3rd were definite inspirations for the set-up. I originally was going for a full-on recreation of the battle on page 19 but then got discouraged because my stone bridge was too big and I was lacking the Abbey, but I was happy at what the table ended up mutanting into. Hey, did you want to game again sometime?

    2. heck yeah, I want to do another game! It's just a matter of being able to get enough painted minis on the table...

    3. Hey, that's great! What about just a small game, or a skirmish? Perhaps a Rogue Trader encounter or a Realms of Chaos Warband adventure?

  7. I love the David Bowie stardust mirror-pants on those Wardancers. This is the song that immediately popped in my head when I saw this by the way: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZ7bCFSCFMs

So when do we get to hear more about the journey of Wizard What's-His-Name?

    1. Hi Evan, Welcome! I've enjoyed reading your various articles on 3rd, and your post about tables was one of the pushes I had to put this table together. So thank you!

It's funny, I love early Bowie, but I never made the stardust mirror connection before - all the spandex and the colours of the Wardancers always put me in mind of the metal bands of the 80's. Ah but, Jes Goodwin! His Elves, and in particular his Wardancers, are the true Poster Miniatures of the Golden Age of Warhammer for me. I love them.

As for the Wizard What's-His-Name, there are a few quick posts outlining part of his journey earlier on in the blog. July, August and September I think. Perhaps I will return to his story. He is such a characterful miniature and a good old friend! Hey, I must now check out your youtube reference and take my mirrorpants off the clothesline...

  11. Wow, what a lovely collection of miniatures and a great table. Great to see Chaos centaurs, and the dynamic posing of the Elven Wardancers with the Dragon really captures the feel of a large scale battle.
There are some really nice old style miniatures there, including goblins, some giants, and the poor unloved ogres!
It is really nice to see miniatures in thier natural habitat, on the gaming table!
