The Tyranny of The Painted Miniature

A warm, wonderful Spring evening and a warm, wonderful glow from some cheap scotch had me happily staring at the stars thinking about the absolute wonderfulness of Airfix toy soldiers.

Such perfection!

But every couple of years I get it into my head that I'm going to paint them...until I open their boxes and see them.  And it always hits me - why would I mess with their purity, their beauty, their yellowy unpainted glory?!   No, no, no, they must remain as they are.   I will not always bow down to the Terrible Tyranny of The Painted Miniature!  Huzzah!

 Airfix!

And I really want to play some Necromunda sometime soon!

  1. Leave those babies in their pristine condition, it's part of their charm really !

Oh and good thing you want to play some Necromunda because I think we really want to read some necromunda reports from you too...

    1. Hey hey Mr. ALMan,

Yes! I agree completely, the look, the feel and the smell of those pretty figs (those babies) would all be lost if smothered in silly paint!

And Yeah, Necromunda! It's not Confrontation, but I love it. I have had many great campaigns both in the first ed. and the newer version (which I actually prefer) over the years, but it has been a while (too long!) since I've last played. Hopefully very soon. Although I am in the middle of a Warhammer 7th/8th campaign at the moment - Chaos vs. Daemons in the ruins of the Empire after the Great Catastrophe. Also, I really am obsessing over playing through the Donald Featherstone rules in his book, "Wargames". Probably some ACW with Britains. I'll post that on my Britains Deetails site within the next week.

  2. There is a certain austere beauty I must admit.

Nevermind Necromunda - you must have some Paranoia minis in that vast stash of yours!

    1. Hi Thantsants,

Beauty, most certainly. And austere dignity too, dare I say. But Thantsants, what have you done?! I never really gave Paranoia much of a thought before...but now...but now I MUST have some of those great minis! Especially would love to have the running guy! Paranoia! Sounds like a lot of fun too.

  3. Yep, leave 'em untarnished. The best games I ever had were with these fellows unpainted, the hunched Napoleonic French were always the baddies.

    1. Hello Springinsfeld,

I excitedly agree! I love those French figs! Although they were always my heros because they were my favourite Airfix Waterloo set. Very happy memories of leading them to victory on the turquoise carpet of my childhood. Glad to see the shared love of unpainted Airfix, Springinsfeld!
