All Grenadier Uberhammer

In the days following the Battle of the Plain of Crows, Clan Grenadier marched determinedly to the beleaguered Hold of Clan Prince August.

Suddenly, Grondir Black Eye has a vision!

It is Grendir!!!  Grendir Bagotrix, beloved old Wizard of Clan Grenadier, the Hero of The Battle of the Plain of Crows!!!

"But Uncle", says Grondir, "you're..."

"Funny thing that", says the vision of Grendir Bagotrix, "I seem to have found myself in a jungle with a group of Dragon Lords Fighting Men, and we are about to be surrounded by a rather large group of Amazons.  I was wondering if you and the Lads would mind helping me out?"

"But how Uncle?", asks Grondir, "we are here and..."

"Time.  Space.  It matters not, young Grondir", chuckles Grendir, "just trust, and you and our noble Clan will be here."

And then they were.

The mighty Clan Grenadier forms itself into battle formation.

Meanwhile, Ariella Isabella strums her magic lute and leads her Royal Guard into position.

She stops strumming.

Silence.

And then the air fills with Amazonian arrows.

The battle has begun!

The Dragon Lords Fighting Men charge.

The Elite Amazonian Tiger Riders charge.

But the resolute Dwarves of Clan Grenadier will not be moved.  "They are like rocks in a stream that soon becomes a trickle."  (The famous tag line from the well-known and much loved Dwarf Saga Song, "Rocks in A Stream That Soon Becomes A Trickle".  Which was written not long after this glorious battle.)

After much fighting and manic magiking, the shieldwall of Prince Grandir The Quick meets Ariella Isabella's Royal Guard.  Challenges are issued.  And Challenges are accepted.

The Main Event.

And then...

And then the Dwarf Delegation is met with disdain by the defeated Amazons.  But nonetheless, terms of surrender and peace are agreed upon.

Bellowing songs of victory, the confident and joyous Dwarves of Clan Grenadier find themselves back on the march towards the beleaguered hold of Prince August.

A super fun game!  The beautiful Amazons are The Major's.  I had been hinting at/asking/cajoling/begging him to bring these out to play with for months!   They are really wonderful classic figs that the pictures do not glorify as much as they should.   And they have a nice heft.  Especially the Tiger Riders.

The rules ended up a bit of Uberhammer because we started off with First Edition Warhammer Fantasy (which I thought was fitting given the age of the figs), but after a slow going Turn and a half we switched back into our old Open-ended version of Sixth Edition.   A bit of a default choice but it works well and it is our own.

  1. What a great battle this must have been. The rules change in the middle of a battle is a first for me, I've never even dare think of it!

I would love to hear Elton John version of "Rocks in A Stream That Soon Becomes A Trickle"...^^

And finally, I feel in all of this that dwarves (when not fighting greenskins or skavens) seem to wage war like perfect gentlemen, their absolutely exquisite manners with the amazons honor them even more than their battle prowess..

  2. Hi Asslessman,

Thanks for the comment! Yeah, it was a blast. The rules switch back to our regular Amped Sixth Ed. just seemed right because the battle felt like it was dragging using 1st and constantly refering to the booklets. Especially for the Magic. As much as I like the early editions of Warhammer Fantasy, I am not a fan of the early Magic system. I hate having to keep track of the magic points, and I miss the back and forth combat aspect of the Magic systems of both the cards in 4th/5th and the dice of 6th/7th.

And AHHHHH!!!, No, no, no, sorry Asslessman, Elton John must NEVER sing the glorious "Rocks in A Stream That Soon Becomes A Trickle"!!! Besides, the song always sounds best when sung in unison by a large group of boisterous (and victorious) Dwarves!

Yes, thank you, these Dwarves always battle with honour, valour and impeccable manners! It is all part of the pre-slotta battle-code!

    1. You must have guessed I was joking about Elton singing this song, he definitely lacks the laddish/bearded/drunken side required for singing such an anthem... Luciano Pavarotti might have done the trick though ...
      Report us your foursome ^^

    2. Hey Asslessman,

Your Elton comment had me laughing out loud - I enjoyed it very much. It was just the Dwarves consider Elton John another Elven plot to drive Dwarves insane and weaken their will to live!

  3. Very cool! Great selection of classic minis! Hope Clan Grenadier eventually gets to Clan Prince August. Looks fromthe Jungly terrain like like marched a pretty long ways from the plain of Crows already!

    1. Hey Mouse!!! Thanks! Nice to see you back! And yes, one day Clan Grenadier will actually make it to the poor beseiged Clan Prince August. They still have to meet up with the expanded Clan Citadel somewhere along the way (how they got separated after the Battle of The Plain Of Crows, I'm not sure).

Hey Mouse, what are your thoughts about the four-way game?

    2. Thanks, P.W.!

Guess I missed something while I was away. What is this four way game? Enlighten me.

    3. Hi Mouse,

There is a possibility of a four way internet game with Thantsants, Warlord Paul, Me and you if you are interested. I sent off an email to you about it last week. Maybe it didn't send? I'll check my sentbox later. The idea/mania for a four-way fantasy game came to me when reading one of Thantsants' great posts while I was hopped up on strong coffee. I immediately fired off a rash suggestion for a game which I included you too.

      Could be really great.

A small skirmish. Thantsants has a bunch of scenarios that he is eager to try and which promise to be quite fun. Perhaps it could lead to a whole series of encounters and even all-out pitched battles!! Who knows? What do you think?

  4. Rash suggestion, indeed.

    Sounds terrifyingly ambitious.

    I'm totally down.

    Let's do it.

I may well have gotten your email and accidentally erased along with 600+ other emails, mostly junk, that were piled up in my inbox when I got home. Sorry, if that's what happened...

Small skirishes sound great. I only have one suggestion: I'd love to have time to paint up the figures representing everybody's troops, if possible, so as to make the game look as purdy as practicable. If not, that's ok.

    Thanks for the invitation!

    1. Hey Mouse, that's great!! Let's play! I'll go leave a comment with Thantsants to say its a go. And I'm sure there is no hurry - we probably will have to spend some time setting everything up. And don't worry about the email, I can send it to you again if you want?

This is very exciting, Mouse. It should be a great time. And you're welcome about the invitation but it was a total given that you would be wanted as a player!

    2. Thanks for the kind words, P.W! Hey, if this game goes well, and everybody has a good time, here's a seed I'd like to plant in everybody's brain...A four way realm of Chaos mini-campaign? Each of 4 guys picks a patron power and the 4 warbands square off somehow?

    3. Yeah! I would love to do that! Let's do it!
