Hobgoblins, Trolls and a GIant named Joe - Warhammering in 54mm

Professor Elf came by for an afternoon of Warhammer.  Surprised him by springing a game with Britains (and friends) instead of the 28's.  Luckily, and thankfully, he didn't run screaming away.

A'kanslai's Rabid Reavers rip and ravage their way through peace-loving Pritonnia until they reach The Ravine of Reckoning.  It is here that the Might of Pritonnia, Big Jim the giant, and a friendly travelling hero, ask them to stop.   "Oi, but we be Hobgoblins!", shouts A'kanslai, "and we's OK!"

In answer, the Chevaliers D'Honneur, the flower of Pritonnian chivalry, charge towards the Trolls of Gamorr.   Big Jim throws in his support and chucks a large rock at the Hobgoblin centre.

GI giant Joe slams into the knights.

And takes them all out!

Meanwhile, Big Jim decides he much rather wave than throw any more big rocks.

Elsewhere on the battlefield, those Rapscasllions from Nottingham chase off the Hobgoblin fast cavalry.

While Hobgoblin heavy cavalry smashes into the "Villains".

But wait!  These "Villains" are really Templars!  Templars in plate armour!  And these plated Templars have "Unending Righteousness" (can never lose their Stubborn and their Hatred)!!

But all this means nothing to the Treeman.

He remains rooted to the spot.  Not taking sides, not even showing the slightest interest in the battle raging all around him.   (Each turn we diced to see if the Treeman would join the game.  But he never moved.)

I'm not really sure how to describe the travelling Hero's sudden rear attack on the Trolls from Gamorr.

The Trolls break and run.

Although, all is not lost for the Hobgoblins.  They rip through the Pritonnian Longbow Wedge.

And GI giant Joe charges into Big Jim.  He uproots a tree along the way and raises it...

...to the cheers of encouragement from his fans in the stands.

Unfortunately for Joe, Big Jim uses this pause to sneak in his own clubbing attack first, and,  WHACK!  The Winner!

The Hobgoblin Horde surrenders!

A super fun game.  Simply a joy to play with the Britains and the "Boy Dolls".  Big thanks to the Professor for being open to playing with these toys!

I just loved th epart with the tereeman not even facepalming and taking a nap in the iddle of the battle.

I understand the G stands for Giant in Joe's name but what can the I stand for?
Any chance we see a debrief in Joe's garage?

    Wonderful battle report.

    1. Hey thanks, Mr. ALMan! It was nice to have your hero proxy and his mount in our game, although his rear attacks made everyone a little uneasy. The poor Trolls of Gamorr will never be the same! And argh! That Treeman! I wanted so much for him to be in the game, but it just wasn't to be. Hopefully another time he'll be inspired to join in on the action.

As for Joe, he is a classic G.I. Joe Action figure (Boy Doll). I believe the G.I. stands for Government Issued and goes back to pre-world war times, and some how the name just stuck as a nickname for American soldiers. I know in England they call the G.I. Joe dolls Action Man. I just liked the sound of GI giant Joe though. As for the debriefing in Joe's Garage, I'm not sure Frank's Ghost would allow it. We'll have to ask one of his Mothers instead...

    1. Thank you, Springinsfeld! Any excuse to play with toys is a good one! Although sometimes I feel I must hold back when I play with other people - not everyone is always open to the joys of great old toys! I really want to make and game a HOTT force with Hot Wheels Redlines one day!

  3. Awesome. Very fun. That's an impressive collection of Gammorreans. Mrs. Mouse put my paints and some of my minis in the mail for me a while back. They should be here any day. Are you still up for an online Star Wars game when I get back?

    1. Hey Mouse, thanks! Gammorreans are my favourite Star Wars Action figure. They are just so characterful and wonderful.

That's great news about you getting your figs and paints! And yes! I am absolutely up for another online game with you! A Star Wars one would be terrific!

    2. Excellent. We have a few months to write up a scenario and plan and assemble our forces. I'll use my west end guys and you can use your WOTC plastic guys? I think we should keep the forces small, but a mini-campaign like Blood Bath at Orc's drift might be cool. What do you think?

    3. Sounds great, Mouse! I'll use my WOTC guys, and maybe action figures for close-ups. I also have some ships and vehicles that we could tie in too. This will be fun!

  4. Another classic outside-the-box gaming experience from the House of Weird!

I assume you don't have any neighbours; or at least - that they can't see into your garden? How do you explain this stuff to them?

    1. Hi Gaj, aka Weazil The Wise, thanks! 54mm just rocks! Currently I'm wishing to have a machine to throw all the 25/28mm stuff into and have them all come out BIG! 54mm! 70mm! 90! Lifesize! Wouldn't that be great?

Neighbours, yes, got them, invite them over to play or to watch, but still no takers. I think the one guy is too busy building a rocketship anyway.

  5. At least 12 things wrong in my life that it doesn't look like this. At least Accept is blaring in the background. Go Big Jim!

    1. Hey, hey Meblander,

Big Jim says thanks and that Accept is always a good thing - all others will rightly follow!
