A Bit Of BOYL West Coast Style

I gotta admit that I'm getting giddy with excitement as the BOYL in Nottingham approaches.  So much so that I thought I would try and put together a little version of it here with a couple of my gaming mates - the eternal privates.  However, summer scheduling always seems to be such a nightmare.  But one doesn't get to be a Private by quitting!  Finding that I had the house to myself today, I moved a turntable and some speakers into the yard, grabbed a bottle of Pernod, and began putting a table together for my own personal BOYL.   Five hours of Hawkwind and Burning Spear later, it was done.

The sacking of Sehrschonenheim was a wake-up call for all the Good Peoples of the Federation of Friends.

"These Chaos Excursions, these Orc raids, these Warlord pillages must be stopped!!"

Yeah, well, I got them set up.  Enjoyed looking at 'em.  Did a couple of funny voices that seemed to fit.  Then took a bunch of pictures and took all the whole thing down.  Fun way to spend a day though.

  1. Awsome pictures, loving the sand table, maybe thats the way forward. Nah we don't have the in doors room or the weather.

Admit it though, you didn't play any rules just set them up and took cool pictures..

    1. Hi Erny,

Nice to have you stop by! Thanks for the comment. Sand tables rock but they are a bit messy. I used to have a 14 by 4 foot sand table set up in the basement of the last house we were in. The Featherstone influence. The only problem was that it was so damp down there the table rarely got used. Also, I ended up losing several minis from having them buried in the sand. An Empire Warrior Priest went missing for years! And yes, it was just me by myself, so I set up the miniatures for the above photo shoot, admired them, took some pics then put all the figs away. No rules, no game. Although the table is still set up. I'm looking at it as I type this. This morning I noticed some cat footprints on it. I'm have expecting to find a nice little "surprise" buried in it! Anyway, have fun at the BOYL, one day I would like to make it out to one!

    2. Sorry to only just get back to this. I heartily recommend just doing a set up. That's what it is half about, the spectacle, the other half the narrative that gaming gives.

Hope yo didn't find a feline surprise.

    3. Hey, Erny, no, thankfully no feline surprises. And yes, spectacle and the pure joy of putting our little lead friends in surroundings that we create for them is always a major joy.

    1. Hey, hey Mouse,

Thanks! The whole process of putting it all together and pulling out some little friends that I hadn't seen for a while was a lot of fun. Although I'm feeling so oddly hyped about the whole Oldhammer weekend that is happening right now I just want to play!

    1. Hey, Hey Mouse, (The Loop Version)

Thanks for the double comment! I've had that happen too when leaving comments on other sites. Hope you're doing well. Really craving another internet game with you when you get back. Was thinking very fondly of the Battle of The Plain of Crows recently.

and not yours. Hero status continues to suit you well. Five parts Pernod weekend...
